The last two weeks in 5/6 have flown by! We have been very busy with swimming and learning lots of new things about how to be safe in the water.

On the last day we had our own Swimming Sports. We had events such as freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. The younger students participated in some other races such as noodle races and kickboard races. We all participated in some really fun house activities too and displayed excellent sportsmanship for Freeman, Chisholm and Hollows.

Both parents and the lifeguards commented on how lovely the Grade 5/6’s are with the younger students. We are very proud to be leaders of the school and help our buddies when we can!

What is your favourite swimming style?

Entering the water safely

How to enter water safely
When you are entering a pool you should:
• Use a slide in entry.
• Use a stride in entry.
• Use the steps.
• When swimming in the shallow end always use these suggestions.

When entering a river you need to:
• Use a stick to find out how deep it is, then when you know it is good go in with your feet.
• Use your feet along the ground.
• Don’t dive into water when you can’t see the bottom.
When entering a beach you should:
• Use feet first.
• Don’t dive in shallow water.
