Today we had our first Chess session with Ron, our visiting Chess tutor.
He explained that a Chess match had three games within it: the opening game, the middle game and the endgame.
Four important tips to remember at the beginning of a Chess match are:
- Attack the centre squares
- Move your Bishops and Knights out as quickly as possible
- Castling is an effective way to protect your King
- Do not move your Queen out early – save her for the middle game.
Do you use any special tactics when playing Chess?
Do you know the conditions for castling your King?

Today we participated in our last Water Safety session at the Kyneton pool. The instructors divided us up into three multi-age groups. We did three activities: Boogie-boarding wearing fins, Sunsmart safety circuit and little games in the shallow pool.
It was a fun way to finish the program. We especially enjoyed being in groups with the Prep/1 students.
